Turn Rythu Bazaars into model markets

Hyderabad: Recently, IT and Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao inaugurated a modern Rythu Bazar at Sircilla, following which the social activists took to social media platforms to request the State government to implement the same in Hyderabad also, so that it would help many vendors who sell the vegetables on the market premises. Out of 11 Rythu Bazaars in the city, only Mehdipatnam Rythu Bazaar has been transformed into a model market.

With KTR inaugurating modern Rythu Bazaar in Sircilla and recently in Siddipet, the activists feel that this type of markets is a necessity in GHMC limits also. Take for example Miryala mandi market which lacks proper infrastructure, which is causing many hardships to vendors are facing undue problems, they point out. Similarly, many more bazaars in the city do not have proper infrastructure. In this regard, a social activist, G Vishal, took their plight to the notice of officials concerned.

Akshay Kumar, another activist, informed, "I urge the government to open modern bazaars in Hyderabad as it is difficult for people to go to different markets viz., flower market in Gudimalkapur, fruit market and vegetable market at Kothapet, which do not offer any comfortable environment to the vendors as well as customers. If everything could be found under one roof at modern Rythu Bazaars, it would be convenient for customers and vendors."

"For the past several years there has been a plan for the makeover of Alwal Rythu Bazaar, but till now no action has been taken. All the vendors do not have permanent sheds and due to space constraints, the market looks dirty and shabby," said Ramesh, a vegetable vendor, at Alwal Rythu Bazar. "The pandemic has made social distancing mandatory, however, at Kothapet Rythu Bazaar and Madannapet vegetable market. There is so much congestion due to lack of proper facilities. There are no washrooms for vendors, and also no proper parking space and sheds. We are facing problems to sell our vegetable for several years," said Madhusudan a vegetable vendor.

When The Hans India contacted one of the contacted officers, he said the State government had planned to transform Kukatpally Rythu Bazaar into modern market and very soon Alwal Rythu Bazaar would also be renovated, said Sai Kumar, Estate Officer, Alwal Rythu Bazaar.
