Hyderabad: Why SSC exams when there is spike in Covid cases? High Court questions government
Hyderabad: The High Court Division Bench questioned the State government whether the State still wants to go ahead with its decision of holding the SSC examinations, despite the fact that the number of cases of Covid 19 has increased in the Telangana State.
The High Court Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice Bollam Vijaysen Reddy heard on a writ petition filed by Mandapati Balakrishna through video conference on Thursday, seeking postponement of SSC examinations 2020 due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Advocate General Banda Shivananda Prasad informed the Bench that the State government is all set to go ahead with its decision to hold the SSC-2020 examinations. AG submitted a report to the Bench on the precautions taken by the State government through district-wise centres.As the Consolidated Report of the State has not yet reached the Chief Justice Bench, the Court adjourned the matter to June 5.
The High Court CJ Bench in its earlier order dated May 19 made it clear that the State government should review the situation prevailing in the Telangana State in June first week on coronavirus. If at all the situation deteriorates, the 10th exams should be put on hold and such decisions if any should be given wide publicity in the media, so that the parents and students are kept abreast of the latest developments on 10th Exams.
Moreover, The Bench in its orders said more than five lakh students will be appearing for the SSC examinations and holding exams for such a huge number is a gigantic step. The State should take utmost precautionary steps to protect the future of the students.
