Hyderabad: The Congress on Thursday opposed issuing of ordinance by state government to allow establishment of private universities in the state as three of them belong to minister Malla Reddy and TRS leaders.

Addressing the media, AICC secretary Ch Vamsi Chand Reddy said that three out of the five universities which were allowed by government belong to minister Malla Reddy, MLC Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, and another to a relative of Chief Minister Chandrasekhara Rao, Kulla Praveen.

He said that while the government promised to provide free education from KG to PG it has given permission to private universities which do not follow AICTE and UGC norms. He said that the Assembly has been prorogued to issue an ordinance for the establishment of five private universities.

He said that the government is weakening the government universities to strengthen the private ones. He alleged that the functioning of educational institutions of minister Malla Reddy was not proper. Salaries are not paid to the staff of the colleges being owned by the minister even though the AICTC and UGC have recommended paying salaries. He said that the college managements have asked the staff to return 50 per cent of the salaries as soon as they have been paid.

In this way son-in-law of the minister has been earning Rs 30 crores per month. He demanded that government should immediately withdraw the ordinance issued for the establishment of private colleges.
