Hyderabad woman who held for cheating NRI dupes another techie of Rs 1 crore
A 44-year-old old woman, Malavika Devati who was arrested by the police four days ago for duping an NRI of Rs 65 lakh has defrauded another techie from Hyderabad on the pretext of marriage. This time, she extracted Rs 1 crore from the techie. However, the incident came to light on Monday when the techie approached the police.
In a complaint, the software engineer stated that he came in contact with the woman on a matrimonial site in 2018. Malavika introduced herself as Anu Pallavi Maganti, a doctor and a US citizen who settled in Jubilee Hills. She continued to chat with the techie and borrowed money from the victim saying that her phone and bank accounts were hacked.
She also told him that she comes from a politically influential family which led to her phone and bank account hacking. And soon, she started asking the money in order to handle the legal issues. Believing her, the victim transferred around Rs 1 crore in several installments.
The Jubilee Hills police arrested Malavika and 22-year-old son Pranav on May 27 for cheating a US-based NRI in the same way.
