Hanamkonda: There is an imperative need for the officials concerned and NGOs to be well versed with anti-trafficking and child marriage acts, Warangal Rural district welfare officer P Sridevi said.

Speaking at an awareness programme on Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956 (ITPA), and Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 1956, jointly organised by Girls Advocacy Alliance (GAA) and FMM Social Service Society, she said people in general need to gird up their loins to prevent human trafficking and child marriages.

"Child marriages remain deeply rooted despite the law," she said expressing concern over the ill-effects of the malady. Eradicating child marriages is a social responsibility, she said, stating that onus is on government wings concerned and NGOs to bring awareness among the masses. "Children would be deprived of not only education but also their health," Sridevi said, stressing the need to sensitise the people.

CWC chairperson M Parashuramulu, members Balaraju, Manjula and AHTU inspector Nageshwar Rao were among others present.
