Hyderabad: According to the Indian Meteorological Department, Hyderabad, isolated pockets of the city and State are likely to witness heatwave conditions between May 22 and May 24.

The officials say because of the change in wind movement, from easterly to north-westerlies, and cyclone Amphan in eastern part of India is the reason for the climate change.

The IMD also issued a heatwave warning for the State for three days recording temperatures to shoot at least four or five degrees above normal and some parts of Telangana to touch 44 and 45 degree Celsius

K Naga Ratna, Director IMD. Hyderabad, said, "The reason for the sudden rise in temperature is due to increase in western disturbances that starts from the middle eastern region of the globe where a lot of moisture-bearing winds travelled to southern India."

"The frequency of rain and thunderstorm activity in Telangana, has also been more this summer, which resulted in temperatures hovering around normal or one or two degrees above it; that is the reason we saw intermittent showers more," she added.

According to the IMD reports, the extreme max temperature recorded in Hyderabad ever was 44.5 degree Celsius on May 12, 2010.

"Seeing the weather conditions we are expecting the temperature to go up till 44 or 45 in the next two days," concludes Naga Ratna.
