Initiative to improve groundwater tables:HMWSSB
Hyderabad: The Rainwater Project is a collaborative initiative with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) which launched 'Blue Hyderabad' campaign to focus on harvesting rainwater, one block at a time.
"We will soon start with our first block near Kondapur/Masjid Banda covering a catchment area of Gopi Cheruvu/Lake and Kudikunta Lake. Our aim is to improve groundwater levels in this block by harvesting each raindrop with the help of communities, corporates and government" said Kalpana Ramesh, founder, The Rainwater Project.
"We would like to reach out to all communities in this area to assist them in building rainwater harvesting pits or enhancing existing pits. A similar activity is planned involving corporates and private businesses. We are also closely working in rejuvenating the two lakes in this region with a multi-pronged action plan," she adds further.
With the help of government departments, the organisation plans to build rainwater harvesting pits in public spaces like parks, roads, government offices, and other open areas.
To encourage participation, the RWP is offering financial assistance for common area pits in few communities that come forward to implement rainwater harvesting.
Kalpana requests anyone that has a rooftop in Kondapur area to join the mission and make Kondapur block BLUE this season by registering at http://therainwaterproject.com/goblue
