Insufficient water supply puts Nalgonda residents in fix

Nalgonda: The people of Nalgonda town alleged that they are not getting regular drinking water supply as promised by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao during election campaigning in Nalgonda.

Major municipality and district headquarters Nalgonda town has 48 wards, which need 32 million liters per day to provide 150 liters per head per day to the 2.05 lakh population. But only 26 million liters per day is being pumped to the service tanks to fetch drinking water on alternate days in one town area and twice in a week in two town area.

As per official information, eight old tanks and seven new tanks with a capacity ranging from 13,000 KL to 18,000 KL and one balancing reservoir have been providing drinking water to the town people from water treatment plant of Udaya Samudram Reservoir located at Pangal.

New pipeline for a stretch of 350 km was laid beside the old pipeline and seven new service tanks were constructed under Mission Bhagiratha by utilising Rs 100 crore sanctioned under Centre's Amruth scheme.

As per official records, drinking water is being supplied to the town as per the demand, but failed to provide regular water supply to every household due to the delay in stabilising service tanks designed for the purpose of particular area.

According to Municipal Commissioner Dev Singh and AE Prasad, water problem in the town has been resolved considerably compared to previous year. Mission Bhagirtha helped to address the drinking water issues of the town permanently. They informed that stabilisation of eight service tanks was completed successfully and stabilisation works of the remaining seven service tanks, which were delayed due to the lockdown, will be finished within next two months.
