INTACH reaches out to college students

Ghansi Bazaar: In a first of its kind initiative, the INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage) in coordination with the Department of History of Government City College launched a Heritage Club.

This is the first time that the INTACH has come up with such a club at a government college, where it also organised 'City College Heritage Walk'.

Speaking to The Hans India, P Anuradha Reddy, convenor, INTACH Hyderabad Chapter described this as a unique experience in explaining about the importance of the heritage to students of a Government College which is housed in a heritage building.

Earlier these kinds of clubs have been established in private institutions, but this is the first time that a club was formed in the State run College.

"Students most of whom come from districts were keen to understand about the heritage of the City.

Moreover, the college is positioned in such a way that in all directions there are monuments of historic importance which speaks volumes about the bygone era where architecture was one of the most important facets.

The entire stretch near the college is of historical importance," she informed.

Explaining about the ambience of the college, she said that the College which was built in combination of Hindu-Islamic architecture style was unique and Hyderabadis were lucky enough to have such a kind of architecture.

"Students from districts who were not exposed to Hyderabad's architectural style were explained about the heritage importance through proper examples including Taj Mahal.

Examples were provided about the students who studied in the College and grew to become important citizens," she added.

Anuradha Reddy said that the students who will part of the Club would be attached to Heritage programme like Young INTACH and whoever are interested would be attending special programmes held at the national level.
