Inter-state gang of copper wire thieves held: Adilabad SP Vishnu S Warrier

Adilabad: The police arrested a six-member inter-state thieves' gang, electric transformers burglars and recovered 10 quintals copper wire worth Rs 5.65 lakhs that was stolen from 88 transformers from the joint Adilabad district and neighbouring Maharashtra State, stated Superintendent of Police Vishnu S Warrier.

Speaking at a press meet at police conference hall in AR headquarters in Adilabad on Tuesday, the SP said that in view of frequent copper wire theft from transformers for the past five months, a special investigation team has been appointed with 12 police personnel under the command of Jainath Inspector K Lakshminarayana.

The team had arrested five thieves of the six-member gang and recovered 100 percent booty.

The special investigation team had investigated the case using latest technology. The team members

stayed away from their family for one month and worked hard, the SP said and congratulated the team members on the occasion.

The SP said along with 37 cases in the erstwhile Adilabad district, two cases have been registered with Babulgaon police station in Yavatmal district in Maharashtra State. Copper wire stolen from 88 transformers has been recovered.

The SP said that the thieves used to steal copper wire from transformers located on the outskirts of villages.

The arrested thieves were identified as Jamaluddin of Mangrulpir city of Washim district of Maharashtra; Arif Sha of Sharada chowk colony of Yavatmal district; Gopal of Yavali village of Yavatmal distrit; P Ganesh of Signapur village of Maharashtra; and Gyaneshwar of Yavatmal district and one person is on the run.

SP Vishnu S Warrier had appreciated the investigation team members - DSP Venkateshwar Rao, Jainath Inspector Laxminarayana, head constable Md Siraj Khan, Jainath SI Sai Reddy Venkanna, Bheempur SI MD Arif, CCS constables Rathod Prem Sing, Sayyad Jakeer Ali, Mangal Sing, MA Kareem, Narnoor police station constable Praveen, Jainath constable J Ramesh, IT core in-charge Sanjeev Kumar and Riyaz - for playing active role in the investigation.
