Irate women protest against liquor shop

Secunderabad: Local women staged protest against permission being given to start a new liquor shop at Parsigutta Crossroads.

The locality already has four liquor shops apart from the newly opened shop. Scuffle ensued when local women tried to stop owner of the liquor from opening it and a woman received severe head injuries. The injured woman was shifted Gandhi Hospital.

Angered by the attack, more women joined in the protest in front of the shop.

As tension prevailed, police were deployed at the shop to prevent further attacks. Women protestors staged protest holding brooms in their hand. Leaders of CPI and TJS parties and people association leaders extended their support to the protest.

Speaking on the occasion, CPI leader Sudhakar said that people, especially women, were already facing inconvenience due to the presence of many liquor shops in the area and giving permission to yet another shop in the area had angered women.

As bar shops are kept open late in the night, women have been finding difficult to pass through the road, he said. Dr Sudhakar demanded the state government to cancel the permission given to open liquor shops in the area.

Dr Sudhakar, CPI leaders Rakesh Singh, Usha Rani, Wasim, TJS leaders Narsaiah, Jhansi, Usha, Aruna and others participated in the protest.
