Patancheru: State Congress women's wing president Neralla Sharada alleged here on Tuesday that women were lacking security in Telangana because of 'failures' of both the Central and State governments.

She and other party leaders, including Godavari Anji Reddy, general secretary of the wing, and students took part in protests/demonstrations here condemning the gangrape-murder of Disha. They demanded prohibition in the State, banning of vulgar websites and social boycott of advocates arguing the offenders' cases and strong action against those involved in Disha gangrape-murder.

The Congress leaders announced the launch of 'samara bheri' to press the demands. They claimed that following attacks on women, foreign tourists were hesitating to come to the country. Sharada questioned why the offenders have been sent to custody when they had admitted their involvement in the incident. Anji Reddy stated that the offenders posing a threat to women's lives should be killed in encounters. DCC women's wing president Kata Sudha wanted both the Central and the State governments to take steps to ensure that such incidents don't recur.

DCC women's wing chief Nirmala Jayaprakash Reddy claimed that laws were only protecting criminals and not punishing them. Among the Congress leaders present were Sapanadev, town unit head Narsimha Reddy, Isnapur Sarpanch Gaddam Balamani, Upa-sarpanch Shoba Krishna Reddy, Samayya, Swati, Radhakrishna, Jaya Reddy (Kucchi), Prabhakar Reddy, Srinivas, Bhaskar Reddy, Habeeb Jani and Shanta.
