Jangaon: Technology plays a crucial role in crime prevention and maintenance of law and order, Commissioner of Police V Ravinder said.
He along with District Collector K Nikhila and MLA Muthireddy Yadagiri Reddy inaugurated the 108 closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras near railway station here on Monday and said that onus is on every citizen to turn Jangaon as a safe town.
"Efforts are on to bring entire Warangal Police Commissionerate limits under the surveillance of third eye. It needs people's cooperation," Ravinder said. Referring to the advantages of CCTV cameras, he said that it helps in crime detection.
The footage is useful for the police in identifying the criminals and it also works as evidence in the court of law, he said. In fact, the CCTV camera surveillance deters wrongdoers from resorting to crime, he added. The CCTV cameras also help people feel secure, he said.
The Commissioner said that there are quite a few instances in which even the complainants or their family members were caught on the wrong side of the law due to the CCTV footage.
There is an imperative need for installing surveillance cameras in business establishments, apartments and all other vantage points, he said.
Ravinder said that so far, they had successfully installed CCTV cameras in 630 villages that come under Warangal Commissionerate jurisdiction. DCP Srinivasa Reddy, Inspector Mallesh Yadav, SIs Srinivas and Ravi Kumar were among others present.
