Journalists stage stir, press demands

Patancheru: Journalists of Patancheru constituency on Thursday staged a demonstration before tahsildar's offices in Patancheru, Ramachandrapuram and Ameenpur in response to the call given by the Telangana Union of Working Journalists (TUWJ). They presented a representation to officials, including tahsildars.

Addressing the protestors, leaders of the union said it was 'shameful' that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was not honouring his commitment that the government would ensure welfare of journalists, who played a crucial role in the separate Telangana agitation.

The leaders said the protest was part of the phased agitation to secure the demands. The demands include house-sites, health cards, scrapping of adverse GO 39, sanction of accreditation cards to all. Among the union leaders present were Abdul Basith, Srinivas Reddy, Kasipathi, Srinath, Anil Kumar, Shiva, Rajkishore, Chary, Yadagiri, Anjaneyulu, Venu Basaveswar, Srinivas, Kiran, Ravinder, Ramesh, Vivek.
