Kamareddy: IPL cricket betting has been shaking the Kamareddy police department for the past few days, which like a noose is tightening around the district senior cops.

It should be noted here that ACB officials have arrested Kamareddy town CI Jagdish and produced him before the Karimnagar ACB court on Saturday and remanded. During the enquiry, the CI reportedly informed about the involvement of DSP, SIs and constable-level personnel were with him in this betting. The ACB officials reportedly found out Rs 2 lakh cash during a search in CI Jagdish's house.

Following which, the ACB officials searched the office of Kamareddy DSP Lakshminarayana on Saturday morning. Since, he was not available, the ACB sleuths seized the DSP's house. After knowing this, the DSP rushed to Kamareddy from Hyderabad on Saturday evening. After his arrival, the ACB officials checked various documents in the DSP office and house.

Again, on Sunday the ACB sleuths inspected the DSP's office and questioned him about the cricket betting.

It should be noted here that 18 IPL cricket betting gamblers were arrested in Kamareddy district. Some of them were granted station bail while a few others were freed without cases. The ACB Director had received complaints that the local police had taken bribes and released the bookies. The ACB first arrested and prosecuted a man called Sujay to prove cops' role in the betting scam. Sujay allegedly informed the ACB that the local police had demanded Rs 5 lakh for giving bail to those arrested in the betting racket. Sujay also informed the ACB officials that he had been set up as a mediator in the IPL cricket betting scandal.

One of the Sub-Inspectors, who were protagonists in the bribery affair, went on leave. Another SI was reported to have escaped and when the ACB officials tried his mobile and it was switched off.
