Kamareddy: Patients turning to a government hospital

Kamareddy: The discontinuation of Aarogyasri services by private hospitals is causing problems to the patients in Kamareddy district.

The condition of patients, who need to undergo surgeries, is the worst as they couldn't afford to go to private hospitals.

On an average, 760 to 850 outpatients from Kamareddy, Yellareddy and Banswada revenue divisions, that come under the district, will visit the government hospital in Kamareddy. About 50 to 60 patients are undergoing treatment in the inpatient wing of the hospital. The other two centres on an average receive 576 patients per day. Many of them have problems in gynaecology, neurology, nephrology and orthopedic diseases. It costs them thousands of rupees to get treatment in private hospitals.

Those eligible for Aarogyasri services had availed the subsidy from the government. Many poor had benefited with Aarogyasri after having treatment in private hospitals. Out of the 100 beds, 35 beds in the district hospital are specially allotted for gynaecology department as 350 to 400 deliveries per month will take place. Five beds are allotted to dialysis centre and 10 beds are in the ICU.

But the private hospitals have stopped providing medical services that come under Aarogyasri as the government has to pay crores of rupees to private hospitals. Now more and more people are turning towards government hospital. Surgery cases also coming to the district hospital.

But the government hospital at the district headquarters has no basi facilities and even the number of doctors is not enough to match the number of patients.

The weekly treatment statistics in Kamareddy hospital includes nephrology 175, polytrauma 156, paediatrics 83, gynaecology 22, ortho 17, neurology 8, pulmonology 3, general surgery 52, and critical care 28.
