Karimnagar: District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmad said that people should donate huge amounts to the Army Welfare Fund for the welfare of military families on Armed Forces Flag Day. He attended a meeting with the journalists at the Collectorate meeting hall here on Thursday.

The Collector said that like every year the Armed Forces Flag Day will be held at the district headquarters on Saturday (December 7). On the day, the NCC will host various programs in schools, colleges, and offices in the city. Cadets will go to military welfare office staff and collect donations, which will be used for the welfare of the widows of ex-servicemen and the martyrs of the valiant war heroes. Donations given by people and charities to the Flag Day fund are exempt from income tax under section 80G, he informed.

Sarfaraz asked the people of Karimnagar district to participate in the Flag Day celebration on December 7 to donate one-third of their wages. He urged private educational institutions and the people of the district to make huge contributions to the country's service and make the Armed Forces Flag Day a success.

He informed that last year a donation of Rs 1.20 lakh was collected towards military welfare fund. Rs 200 and Rs 100 from the December month salary of non-gazetted officers and officers respectively will be deducted and directly deposited into the account of State Welfare State Management Committee.

On this occasion, Gade Narsaiah, a farmer from Velisapa village, Ramadugu mandal, handed over a cheque for Rs 516 to the Collector. Regional Military Welfare Officer Lt Col Kepravin, NCC Commanding Officer Colonel KR Satish Kumar, District Military Board members, Junior Warrant Officer Kalidas, Regional Military Welfare Department staff and others were present.
