Karimnagar: Both the Central and State governments are not responsible for the delay in urea supply and the people must understand this, appealed Agriculture Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy. Along with Welfare Minister Koppula Eswhar and BC Welfare Minister Gangula Kamalakar, he held a meeting with the officials of agricultural department of three districts - Karimnagar, Jagtial and Rajanna Sircilla - here at Karimnagar Collectorate conference hall on Wednesday.

Addressing the officials, Minister Niranjan Reddy informed that as per the requirement, orders for urea supply has been given and is supplied in time to distribute it to the people. Earlier, the farmers used to get urea by showing their Aadhar cards but now urea is being distributed after taking their fingerprints. That is the reason why urea distribution has slowed down but not due to deficiency, he clarified.

"Those people without proper awareness are spreading rumours that there is no urea and farmers has to face problems and urea is distributed to influential farmers only. The government is doing urea distributing transparently without giving any scope for irregularities. To prevent irregularities in urea distribution to the farmers, the Central government introduced POSS system," he added.

Minister Niranjan Reddy said that in some parts of the country urea shortage problem raised as the companies, which will supply urea, failed to store sufficient quantities of urea but not in Telangana. He accepted that urea distribution was delayed in our State, but not due to its shortage.

He said that earlier Nagarjuna fertilizer company used to supply major portions of urea but now that company was closed due to which the Central government imported urea from foreign countries like Oman and Russia. This caused delayed distribution, but not because of Central or State government, he explained.

Karimnagar Zilla Parishad chairperson Kanumalla Vijaya and District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed were present at the meeting along with agriculture officials of Karimnagar, Jagtial and Rajanna Sircilla districts.
