Karimnagar: BC Welfare Mminister Gangula Kamalakar launched 6th phase of Haritha Haram (HH) by planting a sapling at RTC workshop in Karimnagar city and in front of Kothapally village panchayat in Karimnagar district on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Kamalakar said by planting saplings in all towns and villages and also on either side of roads, all the regions will be transformed into full of greenery.

With a target of planting 55 lakh saplings in the district, 6th phase of Haritha Haram was launched and as part of it, about 10 lakh saplings will be planted covering 14.5 kilometres in the city, he said.

Utilising the funds of Thimmapur and Rukmapur village panchayats, lung space forests will be grown and with the funds of Sadashivapally, small forests will be grown in about two acres through Miyawaki method.

Earlier, Karimnagar was covered with dense forests and now the same glory will be brought back by planting more saplings and developing the areas as forests in the coming up days, he assured.

The Minister also said steps will be taken to protect the planted saplings by arranging tree guards and supplying water regularly. On either side of main roads, saplings will be planted in three rows by arranging special officers to supervise the programme.

In the first row, flowering saplings will be planted, in second row normal plants that grow medium size will be planted and in the final row plants, which grow into big trees will be planted. At least 50 saplings, which will emit good smell and have medicinal value, will be planted, he informed.

The government decided to distribute six saplings to each household and it is the responsibility of the people to plant them along with giving them proper protection, appealed Minister Kamalakar.

District Collector K Shashanka, MLC Naradasu Lakshman Rao, SUDA Chairman Rama Krishna Rao, Deputy Mayor Challa Swaroopa Rani, Municipal Commissioner V Kranthi and division corporators were present along with others.
