Karimnagar put on high alert after eight COVID-19 positive cases
Karimnagar district in Telangana has been put on high alert after eight Indonesian citizens who came to town to attend a religious meeting have been tested positive for COVID-19. The Indonesian group has travelled in the S9 coach of Sampark Express from Delhi to Ramagundam before travelling to Karimnagar.
Health authorities said that the group was accompanied by three Indians, stayed for two days at a mosque when a person with coronavirus symptoms admitted to hospital on March 17 and tested positive.
However, after seven other positive cases of COVID-19 reported on March 18, the authorities imposed 144 section at the collectorate and deployed police personnel to cordon three-kilometre area around the place where the Indonesian group stayed. All the shops were asked to close and the movement of more than five persons is restricted.
Meanwhile, the health department deployed 100 medical teams to screen people in the area. These teams will go door to door and screen people. And as a precautionary measure, 50-bed isolation wards have been set up at two medical colleges in Karimnagar.
In a review meeting held on Karimnagar on Wednesday night, collector Shashanka said that around 16 rapid response teams have been deployed in 16 mandals and 6 rapid response teams in Karimnagar town.
