Karimnagar will become 'seed bowl of Telangana': Eatala Rajendar

Karimnagar: Health Minister Eatala Rajendar ordered the irrigation department officials to prepare an action plan for supplying Kaleshwaram water to the last ayucut in Karimnagar district.

Along with BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar, the Health Minister attended a review meeting with irrigation department officials at the Collectorate conference hall in Karimnagar on Wednesday.

Minister Rajendar said fights for water is history as now all lakes and tanks are overflowing with water even during hot summer due to the Kaleshwaram project. The government has decided to supply water to the last ayucut of SRSP flood canal along with filling lakes and tanks present on either side of SRSP canal. The MLAs of the respective constituencies must coordinate with the officials and must solve all the issues pertaining to their regions, he advised.

As the government gave permission to utilise the upstream water of SRSP flood canal, repairing works of SRSP canal will be taken up with a cost of Rs 1 crore for supplying 6,000 cusecs of water. Steps are also taken for supplying water for irrigation purpose to about 77,000 acres present under Mid Manair Dam, he informed.

The Minister ordered the officials to fill all the lakes and tanks as soon as the pumping of water is done through the irrigation projects in the rainy season and for the free flow of water from the irrigation projects, the constructions works of sub and distributory canals must be completed on war footage.

He ordered the officials to increase the water supply capacity of Lower Manair dam from the present 6,000 cusecs to 9,000 cusecs.

The Minister told the farmers to cultivate crops as suggested by the agriculture department officials as per the new agricultural policy introduced by the government. With the implementation of new methods and with controlled way of cultivation as suggested by the government, Karimnagar district will become a 'Seed bowl of Telangana' and by cultivating fine rice variety utilising Kaleshwaram water it will also become 'Rice bowl of Telangana', he opined.

ZP Chairperson K Vijaya, MLC Naradasu Laxman Rao, MLAs Vodithala Satish Kumar, Rasamai Balakishan and Sunke Ravi Shankar, District Collector K Shashanka and City Mayor Y Sunil Rao were presentalong with the officials of irrigation department.
