Karimnagar: MLA Gangula Kamalakar appealed the people to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi festival by installing Ganesh Idols made of clay for protecting the environment.

He released a poster for creating awareness among the people about the harmful effects on environment with Ganesh Idols made of Plaster of Paris and other harmful chemicals, at the Collectorate auditorium in Karimnagar on Thursday.

The poster was designed by Telangana Yuvajana Samiti district president Sattineni Srinivas.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kamalakar said the life of many organisms living in water will be affected after the immersion of Ganesh idols, made with various kinds of chemicals and Plaster of Paris. Due to water pollution, the entire environment in the surrounding areas of that water source also will be polluted, thus posing a threat to various living organisms. People must install eco-friendly Ganesh Idols made of clay and must motivate others living in their surroundings to protect the environment, he appealed.

Telangana Yuvajana Samiti members Ch Hari Shankar, V Raju, P Naveen, J Sairam, V Shyam, K Vijay, Jitendar Rao, Geeta Reddy, representatives of youth, women and voluntary organisations and others attended the programme.
