Hyderabad: Former MP and TRS leader Kalvakuntla Kavitha is consolidating the support for entering into the Council through the Nizamabad Local Authorities constituency as the party leaders claim to have garnered the support of 600 out of 800 votes.

According to TRS leaders, the election of Kavitha to the Council would help TRS to regain its foothold in Nizamabad. The candidature of Kavitha for Council seat to be elected through the local body representatives changed the political equations in the district. "Several leaders from the party have become active once again after her candidature was announced and many others from Opposition parties are also likely to come to the TRS's fold with Kavitha's nomination," said a senior TRS leader.

Kavitha maintained a low-profile for almost a year after her defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. The spotlight is once again on Kavitha, with the announcement of her candidature for the polls. Kavitha's name was announced just before the lockdown was implemented. The Election Commission had to postpone the election because of the lockdown. Kavitha was keeping herself busy with the relief activities during the lockdown in the district including extending help to stranded students outside Telangana and abroad.

According to the party leaders, out of the total electorate of Nizamabad LAC the TRS is said to have bagged around 600 votes. There are 824 votes for the Nizamabad Council seat. The party leaders feel that with many leaders willing to join the party, the election would be a cakewalk for Kavitha.

In the recent past many local public representatives of BJP and Congress have joined TRS. So far five corporators including four of BJP and one of Congress joined TRS including two on Thursday. Several MPTCs and ZPTCs have also joined the party and pledged support to the former Nizamabad MP.

Minister V Prashanth Reddy said that the corporators from different parties were joining TRS after seeing the pro-people development by the government headed by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. The public representatives are joining TRS for development of their divisions. He assured to fulfil their demands and also support of the local MLAs.
