Khammam: Cash, gold worth Rs 1.3 crore seized at AP-Telangana border
The Khammam district police on Sunday seized Rs 53.28 lakh cash, 9.45 kg of silver worth Rs 4 lakh and 1.7 kg of gold worth Rs 79.16 lakh at Andhra Pradesh and Telangana border in the wee hours of today.
On specific information, the police conducted a raid at a check post near Tiruvuru and found the cash, silver and gold being transported to Telangana in newspaper carrying lorry.
After the lorry driver failed to produce the documents related to the amount, the police seized the cash and handed over it to the income tax and sales tax department. The police took two persons into custody and both of them are said to be the natives of Vijayawada. The arrested told the police that they would collect the gold and cash from jewellers in Palwancha, Kothagudem and Bhadrachalam and transport them to the jewellers in Vijayawada.
The vehicle was seized while it is proceeding towards Telangana from AP. An investigation is underway.
In a similar case, the Jubilee Hills police seized Rs 1.49 crore cash from two persons at Jubilee Hills check post on March 25, 2019. The police stopped a two-wheeler on which two people were travelling with two heavy bags containing Rs 1.49 crore cash.
