Opposition plans massive protest for not constructing reservoir in Rollapadu village

Khammam: Leaders of all parties in Yellandu Assembly constituency are preparing to take up massive agitation against the State government for not constructing balancing reservoir of Sri Sita Rama Lift Irrigation project at Rollapadu village in Yellandu mandal, which aims to provide water to more than two lakh acres in the constituency.

He said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao laid foundation stone for Rollapadu balancing reservoir in 2016. The government planned to bring water to Rollapadu balancing reservoir from River Godavari through Sri Sita Rama Lift Irrigation project via Kinnerasani reservoir.

CPI (ML) New Democracy leader and former MLA Gummadi Narsaiah alleged that the TRS government has changed the old design and not constructing balancing reservoir in Rollapadu and taking water first to Sattupalli via Mukamamidi project. He demanded the government to bring water to Rollapadu reservoir through Kinnerasani reservoir from Godavari as per the old design. Narsaiah alleged that the government is neglecting Yellandu constituency, which very backward and tribal constituency.

In this regard, members of all political parties convened a meeting in Yellandu and decided to fight against the government decision.

When contacted, an irrigation department officer explained that in the first phase they have taken up works where there was land clearance. There is no such decision as not to construct Rollapadu reservoir and it may be taken up in second or third phase, he added.
