Khammam: Rains bring heavy inflows into Taliperu, Peddavagu projects
Khammam: The districts of Khammam and Kothagudem witnessed heavy rainfall on Wednesday disrupting normal life. Dummugudem, Vemsoor, Chandrugonda, Sarapaka and Aswaraopet received heavy rainfall causing inundation of agriculture fields and low-lying areas.
Meanwhile, the coal production at SCCL opencast mines in Kothagudem, Sathupalli and Manuguru in the district were affected due to rains and production was stopped due to waterlogging in the mines. With heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas, Taliperu Project in Cherla mandal and Peddavagu Project in Aswaraopet mandal in Kothagudem districts have been receiving huge inflows.
The irrigation department officials informed that gates of Taliperu and Peddavagu projects were lifted to discharge excess water. About 1,438 cusecs from Taliperu and 2,820 cusecs from Peddavagu released downstream.
On Wednesday, Kothagudem received 15.2 mm of rain and Khammam 17.5 mm.
