Kothagudem: 108 check dams to come up in Bhadradri-Kothagudem

Kothagudem: District Collector Rajat Kumar Saini informed that 108 check dams would be constructed in the district for improving irrigation facilities.

Addressing the media in Kothagudem on Friday, the Collector added that construction of check dams would be taken up constituency-wise and 18 check dams each would be constructed in Yellandu and Kothagudem Assembly constituencies, 25 each in Pinapaka and Aswaraopet constituencies and 22 check dams in Bhadrachalam.

The Collector informed that Yellandu MLA B Haripriya made a request for the construction of check dams on Masivagu stream, which was the main water source of Yellandu.

Adding that the main aim of the government was to develop the tribal areas, the Collector added that under Mission Kakatiya, 83,353 acres of ayacut has been provided with water by developing 2,396 tanks during four phases. He said the works related to renovation of 20 tanks were pending under fourth phase and those works would be completed by the end of January. Proposals were sent to the government for the development of 114 tanks in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district under fifth phase of Mission Kakatiya, the Collector informed.
