KTR orders self-defence training for hostel girls
Siricilla: After facing a strong criticism from all political quarters on the alleged sexual harassment of minor girl students by a local TRS leader, Telangana Industry and IT Minister KT Rama Rao has announced the introduction of self-defence training programme for girl students studying in government-run educational institutions, including residential schools in the district.
The minister on Thursday visited the SC residential school in Siricilla where four girl students were allegedly harassed by local TRS leader T Devaiah who has been arrested after big protests staged by opposition parties recently.
KTR interacted with the schoolgirls and assured them of safety and security through various measures. He instructed the district Collector Krishna Bhaskar to roll out self-defence training for all girl students with the help of police and other department officials.
The training will be provided to everyone on a daily basis and help them to grow strong in the society. "Government will not tolerate anybody who commits such heinous crime and culprits will be punished stringently," the minister said.
All the girls who left the hostel in panic after the incident returned and pursuing their studies. He instructed the official concerned to hold special classes for those absentees.
KTR also announced that permanent hostel buildings will be constructed for girls in the district ensuring safety and quality education for all.
