Lanco Hills: Protection & facelift for Malkam Cheruvu

Lanco Hills: In an effort to protect the Malkam Cheruvu from further encroachment and stop contamination, the irrigation department started work at the lake. Major development works include: desilting, diverting sewerage, restoration of inlets, formation of wet land ponds, removal of weed and hyacinth, fencing and landscaping and boating facility.

Construction works of entrance and fencing of the lake are underway. Rs 10 crore has been earmarked for the restoration and beautification works. Speaking about the action plan, Nagaraju, Assistant Engineer, Irrigation says that "Malkam cheruvu is one of the prominent projects. Protecting lake from contamination is the primary objective of the project.

With regards to saving lake, we are trying to divert the sewerage pipelines linked to the lake and desilting works of the lake are under progress with 25 tanks. We are also focusing on the formation of the wetland ponds for natural treatment of inlet water. In the next three months fencing of lake, removal of weed and landscaping around the lake will be commenced."

"In and around Gachibowli, there are only two lakes in which we can provide boating facilities, one is Durgam Cheruvu and the other is Malkam Cheruvu. Construction works were delayed due to internal conflicts, the Malakm Cheruvu development will provide refreshment to the citizens.

The specialty of Malkam Cheruvu is the fact that one can get a 360 degree view of the lake.
