Land record updation: Farmer attempts suicide at Collectorate

Update: 2019-11-11 22:14 IST

Jangaon: In yet another case that exposes lackadaisical approach of the officials concerned, a farmer attempted suicide by pouring petrol on him at the Prajavani, a grievance redressal programme, at the Collectorate here on Monday. The farmer is identified as C Venkatesh of Gummadavelli village under Lingala Ghanpur mandal. He alleged that the Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO) has failed to update the details of his land in the Land Record Updation Programme (LRUP).

According to reports, Venkatesh's contention is that he has been running from pillar to post to get his land record updated. He owns one-acre land, which he has been cultivating for many years. However, the revenue officials had failed to update the land on his name in the LRUP records. It's learnt that he had also filed a grievance petition with the District Collector in the Prajavani programme some time ago.

Vexed with this, Venkatesh tried to end his life at the Collectorate. However, the police thwarted his bid and took him into custody. The police gave counselling to him and informed his family members about the incident. Following the incident, District Collector T Vinay Krishna Reddy directed the officials to conduct an inquiry on the issue. He said that appropriate action will be taken against the officials if they were found wanting.
