Land sharks gobbling up government lands

Update: 2019-07-09 00:00 IST

Tandur: Encroachment of government lands is going on unabated and some illegal ventures are also in full swing on the outskirts of the town. The officials concerned seem to be not bothered even as constructions are going on at a fast clip.

The state government sanctioned 19 acres in survey no. 3, 4 to Dalits for cultivation. As price of lands increased, realtors stepped in and grabbed the lands and launched ventures in these lands. The people who were in the dark about allocation of lands to Dalits started constructions in the open plots.

The municipal and the revenue officials woke up late, and served notices on the plot owners, plunging them in a quandary.

Recently, municipal officials demolished illegal constructions in the survey number 143. Surprisingly a shopping complex is under construction in government land in survey number 111. But no official initiated any action till now. Apart from these, there are many instances where government land is illegally occupied by the land sharks.

When Hans India contacted the municipal building inspector Zeeshan about the illegal constructions, he said notices were served on the people who were taking up constructions in the government lands and that they also stalled the constructions. People of the town appeal to the higher-ups to take stern action against the grabbers and take back the land.
