Wanaparthy: The weekly market yard in Pebbair mandal of Wanaparthy district is under threat of encroachment as many real estate companies are trying to gobble up the land and deprive the farmers of market facilities to their cattle.

In this regard, the Market Committee Association members on Monday staged a protest demanding the district administration and the government to save the market land from being encroached.

"Pebbair weekly market is well-known for selling sheep and goat. Many people from across erstwhile Mahbubnagar and even from Kurnool district come to this market for buying cattle as it is available at much cheaper rates.

For holding large droves of sheep and to host stalls for selling the agriculture produce and other household items in the weekly market, it needs a lot of open space. The government had already allocated some land for the same.

However, some real estate companies have laid their evil eye on the land and trying to encroach. We are opposing this and want the revenue officials to take immediate action against the encroachers and save the weekly marketplace," demanded the Association members.

Later, the Association members gave a representation to Pebbair Tahsildar who had promised to look into the matter and take a positive decision.
