Loco pilot pulled out after 8-hours rescue operations in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: It was a torrid Monday for not only MMTS loco pilot Shekhar but also his family who went to Vijayawada for some personal work. Shekhar was pulled out of the crushed engine cabin after more than eight hours of rescue operations.
Around 50 rescue personnel from NDRF, SDRF, Rail Accident Relief, TS and RPF personnel worked in tandem to cut the steel body and the parts of the driver cabin to rescue the injured loco pilot. He was continuously supplied with oxygen and saline by medical doctors from railways.
After a coordinated effort, Shekhar was pulled out of the cabin around 7 pm and immediately he was attended to by the team of railway doctors present at the site. In ten minutes, he was shifted on a stretcher into an ambulance and admitted to Care hospital at Nampally in Hyderabad.
His condition is stated to be critical because of grievous injuries to his lower part of the body. According to Care hospital doctors, Shekar's condition has to be closely monitored over the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Shekar's family comprising his wife and a small daughter started from Vijayawada to Hyderabad within hours after getting to know about the tragedy.
His cousin, who did not wish to be quoted, stated that Shekar was working in the railways for the last seven years.
He joined as an assistant loco pilot and drove goods engines for nearly four years after which he was promoted as a loco pilot and has been driving the MMTS services for the last three years. Shekar's cousin was present at the accident site witnessing the rescue operations.
