Lok Sabha polls TDP, TJS, CPI to throw their weight behind Congress party

Hyderabad: The partners of the Peoples Front - Telugu Desam Party, Telangana Jana Samithi and the Communist Party of India will extend their support to the Congress in 12 Lok Sabha seats. TJS leaders M Kodandaram has already assured his party's support to Congress candidates in Malkajgiri and Secunderabad. The CPI has also announced its support to the Congress in the constituencies where it is not contesting.

The TJS and CPI, who were in alliance with the Congress in Assembly elections, contested in 11 Assembly constituencies. Now the TJS and CPI fielded candidates in five Parliamentary constituencies.

TJS is contesting in Hyderabad, Khammam and Mahabubabad Lok Sabha constituencies. The CPI is contesting in two constituencies. The Telugu Desam stayed away from the elections. The TDP, TJS and the CPI have announced that they would support the Congress in 12 Parliamentary constituencies which would go to the poll on April 11. However, there would no formal agreement on that.

The People's Front fared badly in the polls and Telugu Desam won two Assembly seats whereas the TJS and CPI drew blank. With this the alliance has almost defunct. The Congress leaders felt that the decision to go it alone would help the party in several Parliamentary constituencies. The CPI is a force to reckon with in Khammam and Nalgonda district and TJS has some influence in in north Telangana and Secunderabad constituencies.

The Congress leaders exuded confidence that with the help of the CPI, the Congress could put up a good performance in Khammam, Mahabubabad, Nalgonda and Bhongir Parliamentary constituencies.

The TJS could be of help to the Congress in Malkajgiri and Secunderabad Parliamentary constituencies. TJS leader K Dilip announced his support to the Congress in Malkajgiri constituency.

Apart from TDP, TJS and CPI, the Congress was also supported by balladeer Gaddar, and MRPS president Manda Krishna and others. Gaddar has promised his support to Secunderabad and Malkajgiri candidates of the Congress.
