Mahbubnagar: Bharat Bandh call given by Congress and Opposition parties in protest against the State and Central governments' anti-farmer policies was peaceful across Mahbubnagar district on Monday.

As part of the Bandh, Congress activists held bike rallies, blocked roads and staged protests at all mandal and district headquarters across all the five districts of the erstwhile Mahbubnagar.

In Kothakota, Bandh was successfull as the owners of all shops and other business establishments have closed their shops voluntarily. Devarkadra constituency in-charge G Madhusudhan Reddy along with his followers and Congress activists supported by Opposition parties like CPM, CPI and others staged protest by blocking roads in Kottakota municipality.

Speaking on the occasion, G Madhusudhan Reddy said that the State and Central governments were following atrocious polices that were against the wellbeing of farmers and their interests.

He criticised that the Central government had introduced black laws against the farming community in the country and ignoring the farmers, who have been protesting for more than two years.

Not only farmers, but common people were also burdened with the growing prices diesel, petrol and cooking gas, he added. The youth were becoming unemployed as the State and Central governments were not filling the vacant posts, he pointed out.

The Congress leader also demanded both State and Central governments to immediately reduce the prices of daily commodities by reducing the prices of diesel and petrol.

Later, the police took G Madhusudhan Reddy and other leaders for blocking roads in Kothakota into custody.
