Mahbubnagar: Deworming essential to stop stunting
Mahbubnagar: Aiming to completely eradicate retarded growth and ensure a healthy physical and mental growth among the children between the age group of 1-19 years, the Mahbubnagar district administration is taking early steps to make the National Deworming Day a grand success on February 10.
As part of this, Mahbubnagar Special Collector and District Rural Development Officer Valluri Kranthi, took a review with the officials of integrated child development services (ICDS), health and family welfare departments and directed them to work in coordination and take advance measures to ensure that every child is administered the Albandazole tablets.
"The white worms in the stomach of children are the main reasons for ill-health and stunted growth in children. Therefore, the district administration is taking early steps to ensure every child is provided with Albandazole tablets and get dewormed," said the Special Collector.
The DRDO further said that the main cause of worms in stomach of children is due to unhygienic surroundings and because of not following the basic cleanliness and sanitation principals. With simple sanitation measures like washing hands and keeping our surroundings clean and neat, we will be able to keep the children healthy.
The Special Collector also warned the concerned authorities that there should not be any kind of mismanagement of distribution of the tablets and if anything of that sort was found, strict action would be taken against the authorities. Dr Krishna, Dr Uma, Programme Manager Venugopal and other officials took part in the review meeting.
