Mahbubnagar: Farmers stage road blockade seeking cotton sale
Mahbubnagar: The cotton farmers at Badepally Cotton Market had staged a protest and blocked the Jadcherla-Kalwakurthy highway expressing their angst at the cotton market authorities for not calling for tenders to buy the cotton produce, on Wednesday.
With a large number of cotton farmers brining huge quantities of cotton for sale in the Badepally Cotton Market located on the outskirts of Jadcherla mandal headquarters, adjacent to Jadcherla-Kalwakurthy highway, the farmers expressed their angst at the market authorities for not taking steps to call for tenders for the procurement of cotton.
"We have been waiting for the past two days with our cotton produce in the market yard. But the authorities and the traders have failed to call for tenders for the procurement. We are demanding the marketing officials to immediately call for cotton procurement or else we will intensify our protest," warned the farmers.
Meanwhile, the Jadcherla police intervened and tried to pacify the farmers and convinced them that their demands would be met very soon.
When enquired with the marketing officials, the authorities stated that the delay for procurement was because of some technical issues and very soon they would call for tenders for procurement of cotton and assured the farmers not to worry as their cotton produce would be purchased soon.
