Mahbubnagar: Protection of historic monuments stressed

Mahbubnagar: After a gap of more than one and half year due to Covid-19 pandemic, the Palamuru region of erstwhile Mahbubnagar district is once again emerging as the most-sought-after destination of eco and temple tourism destination in Telangana.

The newly developed Eco Park, 'KCR Urban Eco Park', the largest in the country, along Jadcherla-Mahbubnagar highway, has been attracting more than 60,000 tourists, not only from Mahbubnagar but also from Hyderabad, Raichur and Andhra Pradesh.

As part of World Tourism Day celebrations in Mahbubnagar, District Collector S Venkat Rao said that the district has several historical places and known for forts and century-old temples. He said KCR Eco-Tourism Park, which spans across about 2,087 acres, is one of India's largest parks and attracting thousands of tourists from all regions.

Earlier, the Collector visited KCR Eco-Urban Park on Monday and launched the World Tourism Day celebrations by lighting lamp organised by Tourism Department.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector stressed the need for preserving and protecting the historic monuments. He recollected that the district administration along with tourism and forest departments had taken various steps to protect the 400-year old Pillala Marri, a huge Banyan tree, spread over an extent of over three acres in Mahbubnagar.

Collector Venkat Rao praised the efforts of Tourism Minister V Srinivas Goud and said that the Minister is striving hard to make the district one of the top districts in the country in tourism sector.

'Following the directions of the Tourism Minister, we have decided to set up a mini-zoo park in KCR Eco Urban Park and directed the District Forest Officer to send proposals for the same. Very soon, a mini-zoo park will be set up that will attract more tourists to the district,' he added.

For attracting more tourists, the district administration also decided to develop a tourism circuit in the district. Travel arrangements also will be provided for tourists from Hyderabad. The Collector said that they were holding discussions with the RTC authorities to provide special buses to visit various tourist spots in the district.

District Tourism Officer Venkateshwarlu stressed that many countries in the world are earning huge revenue from tourism sector and Mahbubnagar district also has lot of opportunities in tourism sector.

Additional Collector Tejas Nandlal Pawar, Additional Collector (Revenue) K Seetharamarao, District Forest Officer Gangi Reddy and others participated in the World Tourism Day celebrations.

Famous Pillala Marri in Mahbubnagar, Maddi Madugu in Achampet forest area in Nagarkurnool and Jogulamba temple in Gadwal district, Manyam Konda temple, also known as 'Poor man's Tirupati', Kurumurthy Temple in Chinnachintakunta mandal, Koil Sagar reservoir in Koilkonda mandal, Koil Konda Fort and few other places are the main touist attractions in Palamuru region.
