Majority departments likely to move into BRKR Bhavan

Hyderabad: Shifting of various departments out of the Secretariat premises has gained momentum with staff and officials engrossed in packing of files and documents in cotton boxes and also sealing them tightly.

Nodal officers who were assigned the job of overseeing the shifting process of their respective departments stated that they are ready and all set to move out once instructions are issued by GAD authorities.

Meanwhile, the government is learnt to have decided to shift a majority of departments to the adjacent BRKR Bhavan with some of them likely to be housed in vacant MLA quarters in Adarshnagar.

The idea is to house as many departments as possible at one place for administrative convenience and avoid IT and technical issues and hence the government is keen on this.

Initially, General Administration Department (GAD) was supposed to be stepping into BRKR Bhavan. Also, eighth and ninth floors in BRKR Bhavan are likely to be transformed into Chief Minister's chamber, offices of bureaucrats in CMO, CS office and their peshis.

It is learnt that officials gave instructions to offices that are housed already in BRKR Bhavan to look for alternative accommodation and vacate the existing space immediately.

Meanwhile, offices of 15 departments are likely to move into the MLA Quarters in Adarshnagar. Nearly 50 quarters that were under the possession of the Andhra Pradesh (for allotting to its legislators) are lying vacant and officials are exploring the possibility of using the unused space there as it is in close proximity to BRKR Bhavan.

However, Irrigation and Forest departments are likely to be the exceptions as they are set to move into Jalsoudha and Aranya Bhavan complexes respectively.

Although the government is intending to complete this process in the next three to four days, staff in Secretariat are predicting a week's time to complete the process.
