Mancherial: Blood test before marriage can help eradicate sickle cell decease

Mancherial: NSS state general secretary Srinivas said blood test before marriage would help eradicate sickle cell decease from society. He was addressing an awareness programme at Model school in Rajeev Nagar at Mancherial District on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Srinivas said prevention is better than cure. Parents are the reason for children suffering with sickle cell due to the genes 25 per cent children are born with it. To prevent sickle cell decease, girls and boys should go for blood test to eradicate the decease. In India, every year 10,000 to 12,000 children are born with the decease, he said.

School principal Rajitha while speaking on the occasion said school management should come forward to initiate such programmes to create awareness among the people.

Talasemia Welfare Society State general secretary K Ranjeet Kumar, NSS P Sudhakar, Malleshwary, Latha, Sandeep and others were also present.
