Markfed seed distribution centre inaugurated in Mahbubnagar
Mahbubnagar: Excise Minister Srinivas Goud has inaugurated the subsidised seed selling centre by Markfed at the agriculture market yard in Mahbubnagar on Friday.
On the occasion, the Minister distributed subsidised groundnut seeds to the farmers and said that the State government was giving highest priority to the agriculture sector.
"The Markfed sales centre will serve the seed requirement needs of the farmers in the district. Through Markfed, the government is providing seeds to farmers at subsidised rates. As the Kharif season has come to an end, now the farmers are focusing on sowing groundnut in the coming up Rabi season. Through Markfed, the government has stocked the groundnut seeds which will suffice to more than 470 acres in the district," informed Srinivas Goud.
The Minister also informed that as per the changing demands in the market, more and more farmers were now focusing on sowing millets.
This season, more than 1,000 acres of land has come under the cultivation of millets in the district. "The foxtail millet (Korralu) is more in demand in the district. We are suggesting the farmers to go for alternative crops and instead of sowing rice, we are advising them to go for other crops which are in great demand in the market," said Srinivas Goud.
Market chairman Anjaneyulu, chairman of libraries Rajeshwar Goud, former market committee chairperson cherukupally Rajesh, Komaroni Venkataiah and others took part in the programme.
