Warangal: Greater Warangal Mayor Gunda Prakash Rao to undertake 'Nagara Bata' (city visit) from August 3 to take note of civic issues. Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, he said that his aim is to turn the city as a tourist hub by improving aesthetics and infrastructural facilities.

"Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is keen to develop the city on par with State capital Hyderabad. Warangal has a lot of potential to grow. With the funds flowing in from Centre under various heads such as Smart City Mission, Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY), and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), in addition to the special development funds from the State Government, the face of the city would be changed soon," Mayor said. This apart, the administration is striving hard to turn the city as a plastic free zone, he added.

The Corporation which identified 3,562 street vendors in the city has provided vending space for 350 odd people, he said. He said that two more vending zones will come up in the city in addition to the existing six to accommodate street vendors to carry out their business.

The civic body has decided to set up a 150-feet national flag near Bhadrakali temple, Prakash Rao said. A plan is also on the anvil to construct a swimming pool in Warangal, he said, stating that officials are scouting for suitable land. The Corporation will soon raze 908 century-old buildings that are in dilapidated condition, he said.

He said that a traffic island would be constructed near the railway station to address the ever increasing traffic problems. "The Council meeting which is scheduled this month would discuss about various issues including the damaged roads and drinking water supply," Mayor said.

Division 1 Corporator Veera Bikshapathi and additional commissioner Ch Nageshwar were among others present.
