Medaram Jatara begins, Saralamma to arrive on to gaddhe today
Medaram Jatara, the world's largest tribal festival and is also termed as Telangana Kumbamela has begun on a grand note today. Saralamma deity will be brought on to the Gaddhe today evening at 4 pm after the priest performs rituals for Saralamma at Kannepally village.
On Tuesday, tribal priests brought Pagididdaraju, the husband of Samakka deity on to the Gaddhe from Punugondla village in Gangaram mandal of Mahabubabad district.
While, the deity, Samakka will be brought from Chilakalagutta on to the gaddhe tomorrow. As per the ritual, the police fire the guns in the air welcoming the deity. This year, SP Sangram Singh Patil will fire the gun.
The Telangana government has declared a three-day holiday in Mulugu and the governor Tamilisai Sounderarajan and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao are expected to visit the Jatara on February 7.
