MEPMA study tour to help SHGs in Warangal

Warangal: In a bid to formulate strategies to make self-help groups (SHGs) more resourceful and make them earn additional income, a team of officials of the Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) went on a study tour to Ahmedabad in Gujarat on Thursday. The team, which also has two representatives each from three SHGs led by Town Project Officer (TPO) M Vijayalaxmi, visited a dry resource centre where recyclable material is segregated from refuse.

The team also visited a paid parking facility and elicited information about its functioning. Later in the evening, the team visited livelihood centre which is successfully running. The centre offers skill development programmes for unemployed youth, the TPO said. Earlier, the team also visited a napkin manufacturing unit successfully operated by neighbourhood groups (NHGs).

The tour is of a massive help for the SHGs, she said, hailing the success achieved by the NHGs in Ahmedabad. Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) superintendent Prasannarani, Venkataramana, anishankar, Srichaitanya Ramesh, Srilatha, Sunitha and members of SHGs were present.
