MGNREGA workers stage protest seeking pending wages facilities at workplace in Wanaparthy
Wanaparthy: The MGNREGA workers of Ayyavaripally village of Pebbair mandal in Wanaparthy district staged a protest demanding various issues pertaining to their payment, safety and provision of basic facilities at workplace be addressed soon.
Speaking on the occasion, Mekala Anjaneilu, president of Agriculture Labourers of Wanaparthy district said that as many as 60 MGNREGA workers of Ayyavaripally had not received their payment for the last one year for the works they did like digging canals, pits and trenches in various places in the village. "As many 60 MGNREGA workers have not received their payments.
In spite of repeated reminders, the authorities are not responding. Not just pending payments, the MGNREGA workers are also not provided safety measures at the workplace and the basic facilities like drinking water, shade and first aid facilities are also not made available at the workplaces," said Anjaneilu.
He also reminded the recent incident at Tileru village in Narayanpet where 10 MGNREGA workers had died due to non-availability of safety measures. He warned that if the government fails to address their problems, they would launch a protest at Wanaparthy district Collectorate on June 3.
