Hyderabad: Minister highlights the importance of scientific temperament among youth

Hyderabad: Minister of Environment and Forests, Science and Technology Allola Indrakaran Reddy highlighted the importance of instilling a scientific temperament among young people as outlined in the Constitution.

He was addressing as a chief guest after inaugurating the first meeting of the expert group on State Science and Technology Councils (SS&TC), and National Meet of State Science and Technology Councils, here on Thursday. He stressed the need for increased interventions of science and technology in all sectors of society to address location-specific problems. At the same time, the interventions should ensure that no harm is done to the environment and ecology. The Minister highlighted how Kaleswaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP), an engineering marvel helped in augmenting water for the crops. He requested the Government of India for greater cooperation on science and technology matters.

The guest of honour on the occasion Dr Debapriya Dutta, Advisor and Head, State Science & Technology Programme, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, said the role of SS&TC has to be redefined according to the changing times. He asked them to take the lead role in the facilitation of science and technology interventions for the State-specific problems and should be oriented towards science and technology governance.

Prof Satish B Agnihotri, Professor, Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai and the Chairman, Expert Group on State Science & Technology Councils constituted by the Department of Science and Technology said that the expansion of information technology is here to stay.
