Mohini Cheruvu in OU premises getting a facelift

Hyderabad: Denouncing rumours and denying any move to hand over the Mohini Cheruvu on Osmania University campus to the Government, Osmania University has categorically stated that the lake is being given a facelift by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Government of Telangana.

The University has taken this decision to spruce up of the 10 acre lake to protect this water body and make it more utility oriented for students and general public. The lake will be under the control of Osmania University after completion of the works. Neither the GHMC, nor any government body will have rights on the lake while the University will maintain the park.

The GHMC has already commenced the work and the desilting work in the Mohini lake is as part of the Mission Kakatiya scheme at a cost of about Rs. 10.00 crore. The lake is one among the 21 lakes selected under the Mission Kakatiya scheme based on parameters like, depth, width, area and usability.

Further the existing compound wall will be strengthened as it has collapsed at different points. This will pre-empt any encroachments.

Center for Excellence

Osmania University will soon have Center For Excellence on its campus, thanks to the Alumni Association, University College of Engineering. The Executive Council has approved the setting up of Center for Excellence at a cost of Rs 20 Crore which is primarily aimed to train the teachers and students to fill critical skill gaps. The University is facilitating towards the setting up of this center by allotting 5 acres of land on the campus. The center will be under the administrative control of the University and the Alumni Association will not have any property rights over it.
