MP Arvind distributes battery-operated tricycles in Nizamabad

Nizamabad: "We will work to provide battery-operated tricycles to eligible handicapped persons," stated Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind. He was the chief guest at the distribution of battery-operated tricycles to the disabled persons under ADIP scheme at Nagaram Sports Stadium in the city on Tuesday under the auspices of District Welfare Department.

Speaking on the occasion, the MP said the Central government had subsidised Rs 25,000 under the Assistance for Disabled Persons Scheme and another Rs 12,000 was granted last year under MP Development Funds. He said that they had selected 471 eligible candidates during sadaram camps conducted in 2018 and currently distributing battery-operated tricycles to 353 people. If the MLAs and MPs could release Rs 12,000 from their Constituency Development Funds, these cycles could be distributed to the remaining eligible candidates also.

District Collector M Rammohan Rao recalled that former MP K Kavita had proposed battery-tricycles, as she thought it would be difficult for the disabled to use physical strength to use traditional tricycles. The Collector said her attempts to distribute battery-operated tricycles was finally realised. Special camps have been organised to select beneficiaries and the Central government agency Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) has manufactured these vehicles for distribution.

Zilla Parishad chairman Dadannagari Vittal Rao said former MP K Kavita had undertaken many long-term benefits and lauded the former MP her great idea had eased the problems of the disabled in using traditional tricycles.

The MP distributed battery-operated tricycles to the beneficiaries. District ICDS, Disabled, Octogenarian Welfare Department Officer Sravanthi, NUDA Chairman Prabhakar Reddy, REDCO Chairman Aleem, officials, public representatives, beneficiaries and others attended the programme.
