MP or MLC post awaits Kavitha?
Hyderabad: Will former Nizamabad MP K Kavitha be sent to Rajya Sabha or will she be elected as an MLC and then inducted into State Cabinet? This is the hot topic making rounds in the political circles here.
Two TRS Rajya Sabha MPs -- K Keshava Rao and Telangana Congress leader M A Khan -- would be retiring by March 31. Similarly, three MLC seats will also fall vacant.
Till recently, it was being speculated that Kavitha would be sent to Rajya Sabha, but political circles now say that party leaders feel that she should be sent to Legislative Council and should be inducted into the state cabinet. It may be mentioned here that Kavitha has been maintaining a low profile after her defeat in the Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency in 2019.
TRS leaders K Prabhakar, N Narasimha Reddy and Ramulu Naik are the three MLCs who would be retiring soon. Prabhakar being the Government Whip in the Council is likely to be re-elected.
Other names doing rounds as prospective MLC candidates are Dande Vithal who unsuccessfully contested from Sanathnagar during 2014 Assembly elections, Telangana Beverages Corporation chairman G Devi Prasad and Telangana Employees union leader A Padma Chary.
While Keshava Rao is likely to get another term as Rajya Sabha MP, speculations are doing rounds in the party that former Telangana Assembly Speaker S Madhusudhna Chary, erstwhile AP Speaker in the united Andhra Pradesh K R Suresh Reddy, former Home Minister N Narasimha Reddy and former MP from Khammam Lok Sabha P Srinivas Reddy are vying for the post.
