Murgi Chowk works holding up traffic

Khilwath: Long drawn pending works by GHMC on one of the busiest routes connecting Shalibanda to Hussaini Alam, where numerous RTC buses ply, is a cause of concern not only to motorists and pedestrians but also the local tradesmen at Murgi Chowk near Khilwath.

The works of the drainage pipeline began about 3 months back and the works of the pipeline are left unattended since then.

"The drain pipeline works at Murgi Chowk in Moti Galli started in last Ramzan and the works were completed temporary. For several months the civic authorities did not bother to take up works.

But the works were started again, with the focus of making a permanent solution 3 months back.

They dug up the entire stretch and the locals hoped that it would be completed within few days.

But to our discomfort works are still pending and the roads have been left without completing the works.

The bad roadsare creating problems and regular traffic jams and snarls are witnessed at the Moti galli junction," said Shaikh Akbar Ali, owner of Junaid Designer Shop, near Murgi Chowk.

Akbar Ali told The Hans India that a representation was also given to the Hyderabad Mayor, GHMC Commissioner, Zonal Commissioner and Executive Engineer on February 13 regarding the issue, but the issue has not been addressed.

"The entire stretch is having deep holes due to which the people are at risk of serious accidents. Everyone who is passing through this stretch is facing trouble crossing the road. We also requested the concerned officers for a surprise visit to the site and take action against the erring officer for ignoring their duties and making citizens suffer," the traders mentioned in their representation.

Due to the dug-up road, the commuters are also facing problems, as almost half of the road is dug up and heavy vehicles like bus and others when they enter create traffic chaos and jam.

"Due to congested road many a times, the traffic police suomotucleared the soil spread all over the road and also tried to cover the dug-up pit. With the pace of works going on, one can say that even till Ramzan the works would not be completed. The works are undertaken only once in a week by the contractor. The local corporator never visits the site and the works have been pending due to the contractor's negligence," said Mohammed Aleemuddin, abookshopowner.

A frustrated shopkeeper said, "Similar civic works have been completed on schedule in other parts of the city, but the officials in the Old City have been keeping works pending. The higher authority should take necessary action against the contractor for delaying the work. Due to the digging ofroad, there is no space for parking the vehicles and the customers move on affecting the business."
